Powder Metallurgy Water Tank Flanges (Sintered Flanges)
Powder metallurgy water tank flanges are integrated water tank connecting components manufactured by metal powder compaction followed by high-temperature sintering, adopting near-net-shape forming technology. Minimal turning and milling operations are required. The flange plate, bolt holes, central through-hole and stepped positioning structure are all formed in one press.
These flanges are widely applied to small atmospheric water tanks, equipment circulating water tanks, cooling water tanks matched with filling machines, and inlet/outlet flanges for water pumps.
Complete Production Flow
Metal powder mixing → High-pressure compaction via molds → Sintering at 1100~1130°C under protective atmosphere → Densification / Steam Sealing → Precision machining finishing → Anti-rust surface treatment (Dacromet coating / Electroplating / Blackening)
1. Ferrous Powder Metallurgy (FC-0208, Most Common Low-Cost Grade)
Composition: Iron powder + Copper + Graphite; Medium strength, wear-resistant and self-lubricating.
Limitations: Inherent porous structure, prone to rust and water seepage when immersed in pure water for long periods.
Mandatory treatments: Steam sealing + Dacromet coating to block internal pores and prevent water vapor penetration.
2. Bronze Oil-Impregnated Powder Metallurgy (Copper-Based)
Advantages: Rust-proof, excellent sealing performance, low friction coefficient.
Limitations: Higher material cost and low pressure resistance.
Application: Small pure water dispensers, micro overflow outlets, low-pressure small DN flanges.
3. Stainless Steel Powder Metallurgy (304 / 316L, Food & Drinking Water Grade)
Free from pore corrosion risks, acid & alkali resistant, fully compliant with food hygiene standards.
Cost: 2~3 times higher than ferrous materials. Mainly used for water tanks of food paste processing equipment and daily chemical pure water storage tanks.
1. One-step forming of complex structures
Stepped profiles fitting water tank walls, multiple bolt holes and positioning bosses are pressed in a single operation, eliminating secondary welding and machining. Ideal for special-shaped water tank opening flanges.
2. Superior dimensional accuracy
Tolerance of inner bores and threaded holes reaches ±0.015mm. Smooth sealing surfaces fit rubber gaskets tightly to avoid water leakage.
3. Lower mass production cost
Material utilization rate exceeds 95% with minimal cutting allowance. Unit prices for small DN40~DN100 sizes are far lower than fully turned stainless steel flanges.
4. Vibration damping & wear resistance
Internal micro-pores buffer hydraulic vibration. Bolts maintain tight fastening without thread stripping, suitable for water tanks equipped with vibrating water pumps.
5. Lightweight design
30% lighter than solid forged flanges of equivalent size, preventing welding deformation of thin-walled stainless steel water tanks.
IV. Supporting Surface Treatments (Mandatory for Water & Rust Resistance)
Steam Oxidation Sealing (Basic Essential Process)
Sintering under water vapor at 560°C generates a dense magnetite film inside pores, blocking water penetration and improving air tightness.
Dacromet Coating (Outdoor & Cold Water Tanks)
Superior anti-corrosion performance compared to electroplating, resistant to humid environments and weak acid. Suitable for external circulating water tanks of industrial equipment.
Nickel Electroplating / Stainless Steel Passivation (Pure Water Working Conditions)
Dense closed surface layer, applicable to pure water tanks of daily chemical and food processing machinery.
Oil Impregnation (Closed Circulation Only)
Internal pores filled with lubricating oil. Restricted to sealed cooling circulation systems; not allowed to contact drinking water.
