1、 Definition and Forming Process

Powder metallurgy water tank flange is a water tank connection flange formed by metal powder pressing and high-temperature sintering. It belongs to the near net forming process and does not require a large amount of turning and milling processing. It integrates the flange surface, bolt holes, center through holes, and step positioning structure. It is mainly used for small atmospheric water tanks, equipment circulating water tanks, filling machine supporting cooling water tanks, and water pump inlet and outlet flanges.

Complete production process

Metal powder mixing → Mold high-pressure pressing → 1100~1130 ℃ protective atmosphere sintering → Densification/steam sealing → Machining finishing → Surface rust prevention treatment (Dacromet/electroplating/blackening)

2、 Mainstream material classification (water tank scene differentiation and selection)

1. Iron based powder metallurgy (FC-0208, the most commonly used low-cost version)

Ingredients: iron powder+copper+graphite, medium strength, wear-resistant, self-lubricating

Shortcoming: Due to its porous nature, long-term immersion in pure water can easily lead to rusting and water leakage

Applicable: Closed loop cooling water tank, internal water circulation, no contact with exposed tap water

Must do: steam treatment sealing+Dacromet coating, sealing internal pores to prevent water vapor penetration

2. Bronze oil containing powder metallurgy (copper based)

Advantages: rust prevention, good sealing, low friction coefficient

Shortcomings: high cost, low pressure

Applicable: Small pure water machine, micro overflow port, low-pressure small DN flange

3. Stainless steel powder metallurgy (304/316L, food/drinking water specific)

No risk of pore corrosion, acid and alkali resistance, in compliance with hygiene standards

The cost is 2-3 times that of iron-based materials, and it is mostly used for water purification tanks in food paste equipment and pure water storage tanks in daily chemical products

3、 Core advantages (compared to traditional casting/turning flanges)

Integrated molding of complex structures

Arc shaped water tank wall steps, multiple bolt holes, and positioning protrusions can be pressed out in one go without the need for secondary welding processing, suitable for flange openings in irregular water tanks

High dimensional accuracy

The tolerance of the inner hole and threaded hole is ± 0.015mm, the sealing surface is flat, and it is not easy to leak water when matched with rubber pads

Mass production with lower costs

Material utilization rate>95%, less cutting, DN40~DN100 small size mass production unit price is much lower than stainless steel turning flanges

Shock absorption and wear resistance

The internal micropores can buffer water pressure vibration, and the bolts are not easy to slip when tightened for a long time, making them suitable for vibrating water tanks with water pumps

lightweight

The same specifications are 30% lighter than solid forged flanges, and thin-walled stainless steel water tanks are not easily deformed during welding

4、 Supporting surface treatment (necessary for waterproofing and rust prevention)

Steam oxidation sealing (basic requirement)

560 ℃ steam sintering generates a dense iron oxide film in the pores, blocking water infiltration and improving air tightness

Dacromet coating (outdoor/cold water tank)

Corrosion resistance far exceeds electroplating, resistant to moisture and weak acids, suitable for external circulating water tanks of equipment

Electroplated nickel/stainless steel passivation (pure water condition)

Dense and sealed surface, suitable for daily chemical and food equipment water purification tanks

Oil immersion (internal circulation only)

Pore filled lubricating oil, limited to closed cooling circulation, cannot come into contact with drinking water
