The cost advantage of producing iron-based double spur gears using powder metallurgy is most evident in large-scale production, driven primarily by three factors: high material utilization, minimal machining, and high production efficiency. The larger the production volume, the more significant the cost advantage.

(1) Traditional processes have a material utilization rate of only 40% to 70%, with significant losses due to forging flash and machining chips; powder metallurgy uses quantitative powder filling, resulting in a utilization rate of over 95%.

(2) Powder metallurgy allows for the simultaneous pressing of the double spur gear, shaft hole/keyway, and other structures in a single step, requiring only minimal finishing. This eliminates multiple gear hobbing, milling, and drilling processes, saving significant costs in tooling, machine time, and manual handling. In contrast, the machining time for just the double gear portion in traditional processes accounts for over 60% of the total cost per piece.
